A brief history of the Union Pacific Milwaukee Subdivision:

02/25/23

Located in Northbrook, this massive through truss bridge crosses the former Milwaukee Road, now Canadian Pacific, behind Costco.
Built in 1911, this bridge features a large riveted Quadrangular Through Truss span, set onto concrete substructures. In addition, the bridge was built at a skew and a ballasted deck.
The concrete arch design is common for new constructions between 1910 and 1913 for the C&NW. During this time period, many structures were built with this same design for all new routes.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in fair condition, with some significant deterioration. primarily cracking of the abutments.

The author has ranked the bridge as being moderately significant, due to the truss design.
